About place

The summit of Monte Dolada might be described as the southern gate of the Dolomites. Flying in this area has a specific taste to it due to the rappidly warming calcareous rocks which at times make the termic quite strong and startling. The nearby mountains of Mt Cesen, Mt Grappa and Mt Avena together with the broad valley of Piave leave the pilots with an impression of being in the Alps. All this, along with the breath-taking landscapes, exquisite Italian quisine and bright sun make Dolada a truly magical place.

Flying here is possible in two directions: to the south, in the area of the valleys of Pieve and Farra Alpago, and to the west, over Belluno and further in the direction of Mt Avena. Different combinations of these tracks are possible - even excursions to Mt Grappa. Pilots are warned against flying to the north, beyond Ponte D'Alpi, though.

Belluno, situated a dozen or so kilometres from Pieve, is an interesting mountain town worthy of a visit or two. The St Croce lake, which can be found a few kilometres to the south of Pieve d'Alpago,
has fantastic always-to-be-counted-on wind conditions which make St Croce a paradise for windsurfers.
